Mindfulness & Meditation

Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years and is an umbrella term for the many different ways to achieve a relaxed state of being. During meditation, you focus your attention and try to clear your mind of the stream of busy thoughts.

There are many types of meditation techniques and they all share the same goal of reducing stress and achieving inner peace. Techniques include Guided meditation, Mantra meditation, Qi Gong, Transcendental meditation, Tai Chai, Yoga and Mindfulness meditation.

Mindfulness meditation is about paying attention to the present moment, to your own thoughts and feelings and of the World around you. During meditation, you focus on what you are experiencing, such as the gentle flow of your breath. The aim is to observe your thoughts and emotions, and to let them pass without judgment.

How Mindfulness & Meditation can help

During times of prolonged stress, or following the trauma of a bereavement, meditation and mindfulness can help to give a sense of calm, peace and balance. By standing back from our thoughts, we can begin to see their patterns and to notice when they are taking over, or hindering rather than helping. By refocusing our attention on something calming, we can help to create a state of relaxation and a quietened mind.
