How Will I Ever Get Through This?

How Will I Ever Get Through This?

How Will I Every Get Through This?A practical Guide to Navigating Life’s Toughest Times, by Dr Lucy Hone is an accessible, clear and practical guide to enable people to be active participants in their grief process. As a thought leader in the field of resilience psychology, and with many years of professional expertise as well as personal experience of loss, Dr Hone framed the book around 10 questions people typically ask when they come to her, and 10 questions she poses to them. The Resource Builders are full of practical tasks and activities to help readers through some of their toughest times.

Grief is not confined to bereavement. This is a book for all sorts of grief and loss – divorce, job loss, illness, infertility and any of the other upheavals that life throws at us.

What whiteballoon thinks

We love this book. Lucy has built on her extensive professional experience, her natural curiosity, and her own devastating personal experience of grief and loss to create this wonderful resource for anyone dealing with living loss or bereavement. In 2024, Lucy partnered with the team at the Institute of Wellbeing & Resilience to create the groundbreaking Stressful Life Events (SLE) Study. They posed 25 questions to people all over the world and this book draws on the results to both inform people and to offer practical tasks and strategies to help them through difficult times.

As well as ‘How Will I Ever Get Throug This?’, questions such as ‘Why do I feel so physically exhausted?’, ‘Who am I now?’, and ‘Will I ever be happy again?’ were addressed in the study and the book. The breakdown of chapters into 20 questions, interspersed with Resource Builders, means that it can be read in small chunks as and when required, and enables people to quickly skip to the chapters that feel relevant or helpful to them at that time.

As Lucy says ‘It isn’t about having all the answers, but about having hope, kindling belief, and being committed to finding your way through’.
