‘When Words are Not Enough’ by Jane Harris and Jimmy Edmonds explores creative ways to express painful emotions and feelings that cannot always be expressed in words. Drawing on their own experience of loss following the death of their son Josh in a road accident in Vietnam in 2011, Jane and Jimmy emphasise the importance of ‘continuing bonds’ and maintaining a relationship with the deceased in many different ways.

About the Authors

After Josh’s death, Jane Harris and Jimmy Edmonds set up The Good Grief Project to help ‘bereaved parents and siblings understand grief as a creative and active process’. Jane and Jimmy used both still and moving images to articulate their grief and, in a society that finds it difficult to talk about death and dying, want to help others to find active ways to do the same.

The Good Grief Project offers workshops, courses and weekend retreats. They believe that ‘Grief is about doing…if you do stuff, you express stuff, that’s when you move forward in grief’. Their film A Love That Never Dies documents their journey to Vietnam, India and across the USA – a trip made in honour of Josh who was also on his travels when he died.
