Inspiration for Traditional Coffins

Traditional coffins and caskets made out of wood and metal have been used for many years. Hardwood coffins constructed from solid timber are still available, however less expensive options, such as those made out of softwoods or chipboard veneered coffins, are increasingly popular.

Traditional Hardwood Coffins

Solid timber hardwood coffins are traditionally made out of oak or elm. The best coffin makers will source their wood from sustainable forests which have been independently verified. Individually handcrafted, these coffins can have symbols, wording or images carved into the wood and can have metal nameplates and handles.

Traditional Softwood Coffins

As hardwoods have become more expensive, many coffin makers have turned to soft woods such as pine. These can be made out of solid wood or have a wood veneer.

Traditional Wood Effect Coffins

Many coffins are now made out of MDF or chipboard laminated with a thin layer or decorative wood veneer. This gives the appearance of a traditional solid wood coffin and can be a more affordable option. These coffins can also be laminated with paper printed in a variety of wood effects.

Environmentally Friendly Traditional Coffins
