Wooden funeral urns are handcrafted from different types of wood such as oak, maple, mahogany and walnut. They each having a slightly different look, colour and texture, and people often have a personal preference.

Oak is a hardwood with a beautiful grain; mahogany is also a hardwood with a slightly reddish-brown tone; walnut has a richer, dark colour with a distinctive grain; pine is a softer wood that is lighter in weight; and maple tends to be lighter in colour. Wooden funeral urns can be made from solid wood or they can have a wood veneer.

Wood is very versatile and so wooden urns can come in many different colours, shapes and sizes. They can be engraved with a loved one’s name, or special dates, or personalised with a metal plaque.

Many wooden urns these days are made from responsibly sourced wood and are sealed with eco-friendly hard wax oil or waterborne lacquer. The lovely thing about wood is that it is renewable, sustainable and biodegradable.
