Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, refresh me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds hide me.
Let me never be separated from you.
From the power of darkness defend me.
In the hour of my death, call me
and bid me come to you,
that with your saints I may praise you

About This Prayer

Christian Funeral Prayer is not a prayer about looking back. From its opening words, it turns towards Christ, asking for strength, protection and the promise of eternal life.

It has long been used at Christian funerals, especially in the Catholic tradition, and may be spoken by a priest, a family member or the whole congregation. If faith was central to the person being remembered, its words can feel especially fitting.

There is nothing elaborate here. Just a series of quiet petitions, ending with the hope of being welcomed into God’s presence. For many people, that simple expression of faith says everything that needs to be said.
