I Will Arise Now and Go to the Sea

| I will arise and go now to the sea to watch your small boat slip into the sun. The deepening wave that reaches out to me, and marks my soul with all that we have done. A sunlit beach, a stone, a hiding place, the dammed-up stream cascading on the sand. Your footsteps by the rising tide erased where surf meets shore and silver-streaks the land. Together we would slip through evening waves to hear the seals that moan in twilight’s glow. They sang of deeper waters, hollow caves and places that mankind will never know. I will arise and take my quiet leave, yet feel your spirit round me where I lie, choose to remember, rather than to grieve, and catch your shadow in the morning sky.
